I’m so sorry that Scott passed away.  He was so young!  I enjoyed listening to him talk about his trips to Japan because he was so excited about them.  I hope his family is doing okay.
 

 
Farewell Scott

I just wanted to thank you for having such a great sense of humor when ever we crossed paths. And especially for understanding my frustrations with learning a new language. Whether you knew it or not, your understanding of Japanese was a big inspiration for me. I hope that I will be able to learn as much as you did.

We are all going to miss you… Thanks for everything.

Wow… I was recently shocked seeing the recent blogs regarding Scott. I talked to Michiko and found out that he had passed away just yesterday. Whew. That’s heavy. I really liked Scott, and I know a lot of other people did, too. I got to know him a little since his lessons at Nacos overlapped my time there. He often helped me out when I couldn’t think of the English word or phrase for something. I also got to see his progress from barely being able to speak Japanese to the point where he was even thinking in Japanese. At least he was able to enjoy much of the latter part of his life, thanks to many of you. And he also helped to enrich our lives, as well. We’ll miss you, Scott….

　今、私は海外にいます。 インターネットをなかなか使えない環境なのですが、本当に驚きました。 日本に来られた時は、とても元気で、ハワイに帰られて、病気の話しを聞き、びっくりしたのがつい４ヶ月前のことです。

　みんなでイタリア料理を食べて、広島城に行って、あの時も体はとても疲れていただろうのに、そんなことを微塵も見せてませんでした。ハワイでもお家の庭でココナッツの実を割って見せてくれました。とっておきの海が見える場所やタートルベイにも、あの車高がとっても高い車で連れてってくれました。 空港の電光掲示板の話や流暢な日本話も忘れることができません。　とてもお世話になったスコットさんに自分ができることはもっとあったと思います。　本当に残念なことです。

ハワイで知り合って、その後も日本で二回も会うことができたのは、スコットさんだけです。

日本が大好きで、そのための努力は惜しまず、その姿を見ていて私はいつも心打たれました。

オハイオで眠られたというスコットさん、もう会えませんが、私の心に残してくれた出会いや、景色や、言葉、感情などがあるから、私の心の中では生きている、といえると思う。

本当に、ありがとう。

On my last day in Japan I went from Hiroshima –> Shin Osaka–> Shinagawa–> Narita airport by the shinkansen. After that I flew back to Hawaii. I was very tired when I arrived. This weekend I had to go to my Navy job. I am very happy that I am not very busy here at work.

Since last week in Japan my stomach has been sick again. This time the condition is different than before. If my stomach doesn’t get better by tomorrow, I will have to go see a doctor after work.
